How the After Tax Calculator Works

Our UK after tax calculator uses the official 2025/26 HMRC tax brackets and National Insurance rates to calculate your exact take-home pay. Unlike simplified estimators, our calculator accounts for every deduction from your salary:

  • Income Tax — calculated using progressive 2025/26 tax bands, after applying your Personal Allowance (£12,570)
  • National Insurance — 8% on earnings between £12,570 and £50,270, then 2% above £50,270
  • Student Loan Repayments — Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 4 (Scotland), or Postgraduate
  • Pension Contributions — salary sacrifice reduces your taxable income
  • Personal Allowance Taper — automatically reduces for earnings above £100,000
Tip: Scotland has different income tax rates with 6 bands instead of 3. Select "Scotland" in the calculator to see the Scottish breakdown.
